Took the evo out of hibernation to get the fluids moving.

I keep hearing the beloved Subaru WRX and STi are in their last year of this generation. Even the STi seems 3d tier now with the Ford Focus RS and Civic Type R swapping 1st and 2d places depending on who did the test. There's a VW somewhere in the mix but knowing their corporate culture I'd not touch one. The RS appearance is bland in the extreme and the Civic R looks to have been designed by pre-teens on crack!

I'm not allowed to buy either so neither Ford or Honda are worried.

Maybe on an inflated dyno. The STI does not respond to mods quite like the Evo. With a fully built engine and all of the "stage 2" supporting mods, I never saw more than 285whp on pump fuel. You will need ethanol or a bigger turbo.

eh idk about inflated . And he actually said 290-300 so that wouldn't be far off your 285.. Everything he tunes seems to make what everyone expects . My buddies wrx was tuned by em and he made around what you would expect . Plus Evans was pretty known on s2ki. Never known for inflated numbers .

mine was Cobb catted downpipe, Borla exhaust, AEM Intake, ebcs.
it made 300 to the wheels and 350 ft lbs. I didn’t want to take any risks with the ringlands so they dropped boost a hair and it was a reliable 291/341 corrected, and was tuned @ Cobb on 93. A tune with Billy’s/Cobb Downpipe really wakes the EJ up. You’ll love it.

Man you'll love it. Peak HP/TQ, meh, it's under the curve where it counts. You'll gain so much torque in the middle of the curve it's like driving a different car. Once that thing is tuned with your bolt ons, man wait for a hard rain and take it out in that. The wet weather performance is astounding. I'd be highway driving, hauling the mail, and I cannot count the expensive rides that would try to keep up with that thing in weather. It'd leave most everything for dead in inclement weather. So much traction. I'll buy another RWD car soon but the AWD is where the heart is for me. So nice having something fast in all weather conditions.
