why don't they use the jag plants to make fords?

the x-type = awd sable
Sorry, no. While the Sable and Taurus are very similar, the X-Type is no Taurus or Sable. The entire drivetrain, interior and exterior are different. So even if the Sable and X-Type were developed from the same Ford Mondeo, the end car is very different, as the price would imply. The X-type is an English luxury sports sedan. At ~$30,000 base, it is the cheapest car Jag makes. Hardly a cheap car. If one ever fell apart, it was though neglect or abuse. And someone who buys a car they hate can hardly be said to have good judgement about these things.

I wonder if Jag's F1 team's costs are part of that loss. I bet they burn $60 - $100 mil a year.

Our present "family" sedan is a Jaguar S-Type R. This car has been flawless with nary a single issue in 10 months of ownership. When searching to replace our 02 AMG C-32, I discovered this Jaguar represents a terrific bargain when compared with loaded versions of the new A6 4.2, E 500 and 545i Sport, listing for some 8-9K less than the aforementioned German sedans whilst demonstrating a superior performance envelope. This car has been a far more enjoyable vehicle in every aspect than was our 98 540iA Sport, 2000 AMG E-55 or the C-32. As to baseline performance, the Jaguar ran a 13.66 (@103.5 mph) second 1/4 mile, very limited by wheelspin and the TCM's conservative mapping. On order (from Arden, Racing Green, Paramount) are suspension, intake (both air and manifold), exhaust, supercharger and ECU upgrades planned to yield 480/500 RWHP/RWT!

You need at least 500rwhp. 480 won't cut it.

Friend at work bought this Jag. The thing doesnt even remotely hold a candle to my old Acura TL Type S in any way or any catagory.

i'm curious... what's the basis for your comment?

the S is based on a common platform with the Linc LS. how is that different than the X sharing a platform with Euro Fords? i drove the S, and found it in no way superior to the X, especially considering the AWD advantages of the X. we bought the X and have been very pleased with it. i don't see any Jags in your lengthy auto resume signature. perhaps, are you just reading too many car mags

i could also make the argument that real Benz's start with the E class.

The real real Jaguars don't have a "Type" in their name.
