Land Rover Discovery vs Volvo XC90 vs X5
Just wanted to find out if any of you guys has had any experience with any of these 3 SUV's? Normally I would go the toyota 4runner/Honda Pilot route but decided I would change things up a bit and go towards the luxury segment. Im in the market for a daily hauler and primarily only have an SUV in mind. Gas mileage isnt really to big of a concern (16mpg is fine) but just really need a reliable good looking SUV with other luxury features as I have never really ventured that route. Any of you guys got any input on any of the 3 listed? I seem to be leaning towards the XC90 AWD as it meets all of the requirements, but I havent really heard on them reliability wise. My budget is about $11,500 and in that price range I can find any of those 3 listed from 2002-2004 with about 80-90k miles in good condition, an SUV is needed as I will be towing every now and then, hauling people around 5-6people, and will be used for the monthly home depot trips. We normally keep our vehicles for a long time (200k plus). Thanks for any input.

Not Land Rover Discovery. If I were you I'd cross that off on reliability grounds. From what I've heard, the X5 would be a little better or a lot better, depending on your luck. But the Volvo is the safest choice for reliability. Someone on here some some experience with specific things to look for on the Volvo, but I can't remember who it is.

My wifes 06 xc90 has been awesome so far. Its the V8 all wheel drive version. It will freakin fly and gets 24mpg. As a mechanic I can say that all three are gonna be pricey too maintain. I spent 700 on parts at wholesale for new brakes and tune up parts on the volvo last year. The Land rover is quite possibly the biggest piece of shit on the road. Expensive as hell and horrendous on fuel and maintainence. The BMW's aren't bad, but they tend to disentigrate as they age, and again parts and mainainence will be expensive. We've had 100k troubl free miles from the volvo so far, we'll see how it goes the next hundred. Whatever you buy, for god sakes don't buy a landrover. You will hate life if you do. Piece of SHIT.

thanks again guys, I delved into the x5/land rover some more and did not like what I found out about the LR. The x5 was hit or miss, though mainly electrical features that would go on the fritz and would cost a fair amount to fix. I found a pristine Lexus RX300 thats local, this may be the one, Im checking it out today at 5pm and will post pics if everything clears out. They seem to have a great track record.

Make sure the lexus has a good service history. The 3.0 in the rx300 is known for sludging if not serviced regularly. Other than that they are very good vehicles.
