be honest, your always going to want more
Speak for yourself. Some people feel compelled to spend thousands of dollars personalizing their cars -- good for them. Personally, I have no particular desire to modify my daily driver, so the lack of aftermarket support is a non-issue.

Check this out: A lil old, but it definitely applies here.

Went from an '02 S2k to an '07 Z4MC. They, for sure, drive a lot differently with the M demanding more driver attention. The gearbox in the M is the weak link, and the clutch does take some getting used to. The sport button makes the throttle extra sensitive making it even that much "harder" to learn how to drive fast.

Top gear nailed it for sure, in order to get the best out of the Z4M, you gotta drive it like you stole the darn thing.......that may seem not worth it to some, but I gotta admit, when pushing this M car, the reward makes it all worth while.

As for mods, you guys are right, gotta pay out your a$$ in order to play.

ESS and RPI have some good stuff worth looking at.....

I had an '05 S2000 and replaced it with an '08 Z4MC about a year ago. Compared to the S2000:

+ Power, power, power
+ Torque all over the powerband
+ Steering feedback (+ the extra fat wheel)
+ More creature comforts
+ Neutral handling
+ More storage space (yeah I know, who cares)

- Choppier ride, needs more rebound dampening
- Shifter needs a lot more effort
- Higher maintenance costs (I still have two years left on the warranty)
- Seats are mega-adjustable but I prefer the S2000's
- More body roll on initial turn-in

Random/purely subjective stuff:
* Engine sounds awesome...I don't even turn on the radio sometimes
* Likes being manhandled, wants to be driven HARD
* Relatively lightweight compared to today's sports cars
* Unique! Less than 1900 total were sold in the US.
* Worst navigation system EVER. I use my BlackBerry instead. Flip-up screen is cool though.

Thanks guys! for the price, i think its a logical step up from a S2k... but i guess id have to drive one..

Only negatives i hear are stiff suspension (i ran on megan tracks and loved it) so that shouldnt be an issue...

Personally, i dont like the sunroof (just added weight IMO) and like the fact that it doesnt have a rear seat (its a roadster )

And i LOVE the fact that i MIGHT see one a month.

Had a z3m. Fun as hell to drive but not so fun to fix and that particular generation had some structural issues. Felt less solid than an s2000 of the same miles. It had an odd transition into sharp corners that was a lot of fun but sort of reminded me of just "throwing" the car into the corner versus a precise driver controlled movement.

Haven't driven the M edition of the z4. As long as you can handle the potential maint issues, it's a good deal for a driver's car.

There's a lot of concern around maintenance and repair costs, but I think it's just fear.

From what I've read, the only thing when it comes to maintenance is the whole valve adjustment thing.

This is ultimately what frustrated me about the S2000. Sure, it's exhilarating to push the car hard but unless you are on a track or have no regard for your driving record, there's a real limit to how often this can be done. This was a real downer, esp in my AP1- unless you're shifting to stay in VTEC you're just not moving, and 3 VTEC shifts takes you to 90+MPH. Pretty useless performance on a 45MPH back road.
