In other news, Brilliance is pulling out of the European markets after "selling" cars there since 2007. Apparently selling a Chinese car at the same prices as European cars wasn't too successful...

Some of it might have to do with traditional Confucian thought. When it comes to art, the best stuff is that which most faithfully imitates the master works of the past. There is much less emphasis placed on creativity and the intellectual rights of a creator.

For example, for hundreds of years a major point of concern in the Chinese court was recovering the tuning used for the yellow bell, that was supposedly the perfect pitch to attune heaven and earth with.

It's just a case of reverse engineering, pure and simple. They have basically no regard for international copyright laws so they just take things apart, set up their tooling, and start building. I won't comment on whether it's right or wrong because it doesn't matter- they're doing it either way. The significant point is that it is giving their auto industry a tremendous running start into the car game. The build quality of these things gets better with each pic I see.

Yes, they are still laughable for many reasons, but give it another 5 year and the Japanese, Koreans, & domestics are going to have a problem on their hands.

I think the SAAB is actually made from the old SAAB 95 tooling.

You know what is even more ****ed though -- when our aerospace industry signs a deal to sell something, say 737's to the Chinese Airlines their government tends to mandate that some component or components be built in China.

This concept is not new and in fact the Japanese have been doing the same thing for years. The difference is the Japanese actually innovate and improve, the Chinese steal and copy, very often poorly.

Not sure about you but I don't particularly want to be on a 737 one day knowing that the tail section was perhaps made in China.
