You think a professional race car driver can't tell if the chassis on a street car is twisting?

This is what I call "Magazine racing". While it can be a good basis for good car discussion, people shouldn't get wrapped up in the hype and say thing like "the Mazdaspeed 3 is a better car than the S2000" or "the MS3 is faster around the track than an S" or "the S2000's brakes suck".
Most magazine racing turn into arguments made by people that don't race their car. Which is weird - if you don't race, then why do you care about lap times. And if you do race, you know not to read too much into what a magazine does with a stock car.
The mazdaspeed 3 is an excellent car. But for me, I prefer the S2000.

I readily admit my car's (S2000) weaknesses. I still like it though.

Isn't the s2k famed for it's stiff chasis though? Shouldn't he feel much more twist in the other cars that posses a softer chasis?
I wouldn't call the chassis amazing, I've been in much stiffer cars. Then there's weight, and convertible vs coupe etc. Don't mix up my words, I'm simply noting stiffness.

The S2000 might not be the fastest car on a track... i bet there are quite a few modern fwd cars who could be faster. I've said this before, but the S2000 isn't necessairly a fast car.
What it definately is however, is one of the best cars i've ever driven. It's not about how fast you can go round a race track, it's about how much fun it is. When i was at the track last time, a friend of mine was watching from the pits... he told me that everytime i went sideways in the last corner (close to the pits), the little crowd watching went "ohhhh! ahhh! woohooo!". And i sure had the biggest smile of them all on my face when i drove back into the pits. I'm pretty sure a Mazda 3 can't do this.

I find articles like this almost pointless. The S was clearly in the pack because of it's famous handling and performance. So that says something for an out of production car.
Yet they compare it to a car not designed for that.... it's FWD. No true performance car is FWD which makes this an apples to oranges comparison.
I have to agree. This is mag car racing and a lot of fiction.

Think about it this way, a 599 kills both these cars, but if you want a convertible, the S2000 is the clear winner.
And, why can't Mazda make a fast Miata if it can make a fast economy car?
