You think a professional race car driver can't tell if the chassis on a street car is twisting?

This is what I call "Magazine racing". While it can be a good basis for good car discussion, people shouldn't get wrapped up in the hype and say thing like "the Mazdaspeed 3 is a better car than the S2000" or "the MS3 is faster around the track than an S" or "the S2000's brakes suck".
Most magazine racing turn into arguments made by people that don't race their car. Which is weird - if you don't race, then why do you care about lap times. And if you do race, you know not to read too much into what a magazine does with a stock car.
The mazdaspeed 3 is an excellent car. But for me, I prefer the S2000.

Either take the turbo off the mazda or add a turbo to the S and I'm sure it would be the other way around by a bit more.

i didn't read the full article but to truly compare apples to apples they should have standardized the tires and brakes

sounds like the brakes were holding the s2000 back. he likely couldn't dive as deep into the corners without overheating the stock pads, and lost a lot of time that way.
i still don't understand why magazines won't put the same tires and pads into cars that they're comparing on the track. who in their right mind races on stock tires and pads?!

This really isn't a surprise. A few years ago in one of Car and Driver's "Lightning Lap" events at VIR the Mazdaspeed 3 was faster around the track than the S2000 CR.
That fact did not put a smile on my face
