Mazda: Kodo + straight six = win
I don't know how many saw the announcement recently, but little old Mazda is bringing a new straight six to its products. Bigger engine, and maybe a bigger sports car?

Kind of puts Toyota to shame for outsourcing its Supra to Germany...

I'm a fan of inline-6 engines, but there are too many compromises to vehicle design these days (esp. with Euro pedestrian impact regs).
Mazda (or somebody!) should develop a compact, short, low V4 and build a short-wheelbase, low-hood/cowl sports car around that! A V4 would have the major advantage of the rotary, compactness, while having none of the downsides. Shortened Vision coupe built on Miata-based platform with a 2.5 liter V4 making 250ish horsepower N.A., that'd be about the perfect sports car for me...
But if they could lay the inline-6 way over on its side and make the Vision somewhat in its existing proportions, yeah, I'd be into that too...

This caught my eye as well. And it is to be a Skyactive X straight six which means a really low boost SC and a little more power and torque that you average NA 6. Put that in a Kodo Mazda six with a stick and they have me. Takes the place a BMW 3 series used to occupy.
Say for the sake of argument you get Mazda driving dynamics and interior quality in a sedan (or wagon!), high MPG Skyactive X, with a straight six around 270hp and torque with a stick for about $40,000 and I would run to the dealer. A loaded turbo Mazda 6 is only $35k right now,

That concept car looks a lot like the 3 I just bought only lower and sleeker.

Not going to happen, Mazda already said its building this motor for their larger SUVs and possibly sedans in the future. Enthusiasts then drew the link to the concept car.
I'd rather them just stick a durable, 2.0l+ turbo engine into the current nd.
