Default Mitsubishi Evolution IX Impressions anyone?

I'm selling my S2K and looking for a 4 door. The Evo IX caught my eyes a few days ago and it made me wonder about owning one.

Anyone here who went from S2000 to EVO IX? What are you impressions?

I like the idea of the Evo because its possible to daily drive and have some fun tracking couple times a year.

NOTE: Only interested in the Evolution IX edition no other Evo editions.

Thanks in advance.

Why are you only interested in the MR?

9kscream - Brad - he traded his 02 for an 06 MR about 2-3 months ago.

MR is not that much different than GSR or RS Evo's as far as daily driving, etc...... I had a 2003 Evo for 2+ years as a daily driver. Not sure why I sold it, but great cars.

I have both. My S2000 isnt NA so it might not be a great comparison. I have an 05 MR, Weightless White with 6k miles and she's bone stock. I absolutly love it, so much so that I traded in an 02 M5 for it What would you like to know?

No way!!!!!!!!!!!!! The E39 M5 was on my buy list but I soon realized I can't afford a an 04-05 model (I need the bumper-to-bumper warranty) yet.

With the Evo, I'm most concerned with reliability of the AWD system and the turbocharged engine.

I'm mainly concerned with maintence costs and reliability of the Evo.

Also, how does the Evo compare to the S2000 as far as "fun" factor?

I think the little things like 6 speed, improved handling, forged alloy wheels, HID, etc. make the car better overall. Also the used Evo MR prices are decent compared to MSRP of $35K.

6 speed in the MR is a lot less reliable, but as long as you are just street driving it and the occasional track day (couple a year) it will probably be fine. I opted for the IX SSL package after finding out about this problem. I have the leather covered recaro's, sunroof, much better stereo, but it has the standard 5 speed and stock wheels. I didn't care to much about the wheels as I always planned on buying wider track wheels from the beginning.

The interior in the SSL package is a lot nicer. I test drove an MR and the 6 speed shifts pretty damn nice, but the durability of the 5 speed sold me.

Whichever you choose welcome to the world of steering with feel and feedback. It's a much more useful car, but I do miss the S2000 sometimes. It was a more special car to drive...whatever that means, but on the street the evo is a better car all around. It drives very well and feels very neutral at street speeds and not corning at 100%. It understeers to much for me on the track, but that is easily curable.

Good luck.

6 speed - less reliable..quite a bit actually
Evo IX SSL- HID's, better stereo, better interior, and sunroof

Handling: The MR does not have better handling. It has shocks that make the ride nicer on the street, but they don't make it handle any better. It's not worse, but it's not better.

I got mine brand new for $31,299 and you can get the MR, if they have any left, for $32,299.

Unfortunately, all they have left now are the MR SEs now. They cost more.
