Save, I'm in the same friggin boat, no more S, just company car .
Here's the deal, you start modding the miata, it's a downward spiral, you'll end up pouring a good amount of money into the thing (unless by modding you mean mildly, maybe some suspension bits and that's it, but I'm assuming you're chasing s2000 caliber performance, in which case I see FI in your proposed future), and before you know it, you've dumped your money into a depreciating asset with mods that's pretty much worthless. And guess what, you still want an s2000, or whatever other car at that point you may want badly.
It's funny cuz I'm considering a miata to fill the void at the moment, but as great as a car it is, I don't think I'd be satisfied with it unless I get an NB next to free.

Nothing wrong with a few well chosen bang-for-the-buck mods while you continue to save...

Anti-roll bars are cheap and have a great effect, maybe find some free mods on the forum, air filter, play with tire pressures, a few nice interior items, etc.

^^^THIS.

mod. just don't do anything you can't take off in a few hours time or be easily reversed. atleast you can have some fun while you save. this way you have the best of both worlds.

and honestly, once you get a motorcycle you may not even want the S anymore.
