I'm surprised all of the focus on gas mileage especially considering that most of us are or have been S2000 owners. It doesn't get very good gas mileage especially considering that it's only a little 4 banger. Gas mileage seems to be having little impact on the market outside of big cumbersome SUV's. My M3 and M5 get pretty crummy gas mileage but I'm certainly not about to trade one in on a Prius.

I don't quite see what is so pretty in the boxy looking American Muscle Cars... they just don't seem elegant to me at all :\
But to each their own... the 6.6 liter engine sounds good tho'.

Honda maintains that claim to fame because they still sell (very few) Insights. A car that is totally impractical for all but a few. Gas may be up, but look at the percentage of trucks and SUV's all auto makers sell. This thing at least stands a chance of seeing upper 20's; which is better than most including the S2000.
"Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) is the sales weighted average fuel economy, expressed in miles per gallon (mpg), of a manufacturer

Apply that to the S2000. Driven as it should be, which is to say as a sports car it returns high teens. There is something to be said for your logic, but it is coming from a questionable source.
No one remembers what high gas prices did to mass production gas-guzzlers back in the 70's? No one is saying it is destined to fail. Just that it is going against the odd

In that case, the new miata awaits you.

And a new Miata would be fine with me, hardtop please.
By the way, anybody wanna place a bet on which model sells more, the new Challenger or the boring Corolla. I'll put my cash on the Corolla. How about which model is still around in five years? Again, I'll take the Corolla.

[QUOTE=archtop,Aug 3 2006, 07:57 AM] I don't know about your S2k but my 06' consistently gets 23+ mpg and thats with lots of redline shifts and driving on winding hilly roads. My C6 consistenly got 16 mpg with same style driving. Now if I were to drive my s2k like a maniac ( redlining every second I could) I would expect the lowest might be 19 and that would equate to 10 on my Vette.I loved my C6 but there is now way its an "Economy Sports Car".You got 8 cylinders and 400 hp your gonna pay the price, pure and simple physics .You can get decent milage if you drive it like a Camry but you won't be able to with all that

[QUOTE=candyass,Aug 4 2006, 01:16 AM] Your C6 was modified , correct? I don't think you are telling the whole story here. My C6 regularly gets 30-31 on the hwy and 18-22 in city driving. The only time I have been as low as the 10 mPG you are suggesting was on a racetrack at wide open throttle where I got 9mpg which interestingly enough was the exact same mileage I got with my S2000 on the racetrack. The hwy gas mileage for my C6 and S2000 were nearly identical at 30-31 mpg. City, advantage goes to the S2000 where I would usually get 22-24 compared to the C6 18-22. Lets not forget that the C6 has alot more power with 3X the displacement of the S2000 as well as additional cargo space. All in all I would say the C6 is an extremely capable and efficient package. Now back on topic.
There is no way in hell the Challenger will get 28 mpg city hwy or anywhere else for that matter. It will be way to heavy, Dodge does not do lightweight well. read 3600# +, absolutely horrible aerodynamic drag. I mean look at it , it is shaped like a brick.
