Is the Mustang GT500 really worth the extra $$$?

I went to the Austin car show on Friday and checked out the Mustangs. I was disappointed, IMO they don't look near as nice in person as in pics. Great bang for the buck, but I could tell they cut corners to focus on headline specs.

I would just pick up a 2011 GT...there will be cheap blower options almost immediately following it's release I'm sure and it won't attract as much attention. Just because someone can afford one doesn't mean that the rather hefty price difference won't factor in. You could heavily modify the GT and still have significant coin left versus purchasing the GT500.

Is a Type R worth the premium over a GSR?
For me, the GT500 is worth it. It's faster, better looking, etc etc, but more importantly to me anyway, it's more special and therefore interesting than a GT.
I'm sure you can mod a GT to surpass the GT500, but in the end you have a modded GT. You can have that or a shelby gt500.
Going back to the DC2 analogy, if I were making a track rat to be competitive, I wouldn't start with the type r even though it has a leg up over the GSR, and I'm sure many folks would agree. I mean yeah it'd be nice to use a type r, but looking from a value based competitive perspective, the GSR makes more sense. If I had a type r, I'd essentially keep it clean and stock. That's the difference for me at least.

gt500 is less weight, better suspension, more tire.

Curb weight - GT500 3820lb, GT 3605lb
The 5.0 carries around 200lb less weight than the GT500. It has slightly better F/R weight distribution (54/46 vs 56/44). Its normally aspirated engine should allow for throttle modulation that's more linear than the GT500's blower motor.
I'd be surprised if the 5.0 wasn't the sweeter handling car.

All it needs is whipple or a KB..and that would put you north of 700whp easily
