You need a PPI more than you need a carfax. Take it to an independant mechanic/dealer to get one.

www.rennlist.com if you need to find a good mechanic in your area.

Concur with PPI...

Also... if youre in the market for a used 911 and youre in the $20K range, go after a clean G50 car instead of a 964.

The early 964's had a variety of issues... not the least of which being the lack of a head gasket.

I'd be far more comfortable paying $20K for a high milage 88 or 89 than I would be spending less for a 90-92 964. The 3.2L is bulletproof, the G50 is a vast improvement over the 915 and the car is still true to its roots... no power steering, etc, etc, etc.

Concur with all UNLESS he wants air conditioning that is more effective than a half-dead dog panting on his feet.

No 964 experience, but I believe the A/C slash climate control in a 964 is far superior than a Carrera. It can't be worse.

sign up with pelicanparts and rennlist and ask over there. PPI is a good idea.
The 3.6 liter engines are not bad and every year has issues to look for. some 3.6's have already had the slight leak at the head taken care of under warranty. Distributor vent and belt change. Get a list of check off items from the porsche forum.

Not sure if anyone else here has had a 911 before but, many time the early 3.6 engine head leak can be cured with just retorqueing the head studs.

I think that if he wants functioning A/C, he's looking at the wrong car, period. :D
