Perfect car for the hip metrosexual male, or the soccer mom who's trying way too hard to appear cool.

Or the guy whose wife wants a baby and he will probably have to sell the S, but wants to get a car big enough for 3 adults and 2 dogs that will provide enough fun to slightly fill his desire for a little performance. Also keep in mind that his boss owns a FX, so that is out of the question.

Looks good, but BMW is still not getting it. People want MPG now. We don't need a gas guzzling V8

The gas mileage craze is relative to vehicle price.

People driving moderately large/big SUVs aren't exactly worrying about gas mileage. If they were, most would buy minivans.

I don't buy that. I think MPG/green cars are something to brag about now. It's becoming noveau. I think that's pretty obvious, and this is a trend I actually like.

Yeah, but they aren't driving MPG/green cars. They're driving a big SUV. They may have OTHER fuel efficient vehicles, but the fact that they're driving a moderately sized vehicle that gets crappy fuel economy points to the fact that they care more about size and luxury than fuel economony. Otherwise, as I pointed out, they'd be driving a minivan that's better in every regard except towing (and luxury, ultimately, depending on how nice of a vehicle they buy). Obviously, no minivan is going to match an X5 for materials and options.

I like it. I'm glad BMW didn't hack up the X5.

im with Jon boy.. my parents are 1st generation indian and they could car less about fuel economy, they car about prestige and looks. All we ever get are bmws and hondas. We have a minivan but all it does is sit on the driveway growing weeds. The higher the price tag and prestige the more mpg doesnt make a difference. Also my parents own business so they write it off sometimes
