I'm actually surprised Toyota was so conservative with this one. Not that it's a bad car, but man almost zero changes, the only major one being under the hood. It doesn't look any better built, not that the last one sucked in this regard. And the way they just recycled the old car with previous-gen Camry SE looks and tacked on a nav system inside...you can tell the development resource alottment for this thing was low. The last time there was a Corolla I cared about, it had "GTS" in its name.
As for the wheels, I love 'em...just not on this car.

Wow this car is not creative at all. Its like they ran out of original ideas and threw a bunch of current Toyota car designs together. I see styling cues of the Yaris, the Matrix, the Camry, the current selling Camry and the IS250/350 lower front grill combined.
I thought Toyota delayed the next generation Corolla to spend more time on the drawing board. I guess their conclusion was "**** it."

Value sells this car, you guys are all looking for the wrong things. It's cheaper than a civic, typically gets better gas mileage, and has lower insurance rates. Toyota shouldn't be wasting money on performance [you seriously want TRD parts on their lowest level economy car..?] or on cosmetics too much IMO. If you want fancier that's what the camry is. Fancier.. ES.. IS.. GS.. LS.. SC it's all there. Don't try to make it something it's not.

the XRS with 2.4L and 17" alloys looks nice and would make me consider it if i were looking at the Mazda Focus.
i'd like to know if they went away with torsion beam rear suspension and went back to an indpenedent which none of the reviews show.

The one thing that always amzed me about new generations of Civic's and Corollas was that each time a new one came out, hp AND milage usually went up at the same time. Now with new measurements for HP and new EPA standards its hard to tell if they were improved or not.
The base used to be rated at about 41mpg highway (from my foggy memory) and now is 35 mpg highway but using a new testing method. So in real world terms, is it worse or better? The car looks heavier but I dunno.
Nice car for the money in that segment, but ho hum looks.

Sure seems that way. This thing makes the new Sentra SE-R, itself a pretty half-assed entry, look damn interesting.
