The Corolla didn't become the world's best-selling car by being beautiful and fun.

The new corolla is ugly and the new Corolla XRS is weaksauce. They are pretty much using the base camry and tc engines
2.4-litre four-cylinder engine
158 hp @ 6,000 rpm
162 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4,000 rpm
Five-speed manual and five-speed automatic transmissions
I'd still prefer the 9thgen XRS over the new 10th gen. Celica GT-S Engine VVTL-I (Lift, almost the same as VTEC)
1.8-litre four-cylinder engine
164 hp @ 7,400 rpm
125 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4,400 rpm
Six-speed manual
The interior is outdated and cheap. Stupid Toyota. At least exterior wise the corolla looks better then it's current Predcessor and the civic. Toyota needs to step up and stop putting in an outdated interior.
Oh well at least the did something good to the Matrix XRS (Trix). I'd get that over the corolla anyday.

interior wise, i happen to like the clean looking interior vs the star ship enterprise of the civics.
don't know about the matrix. i think i need to see one in person.

Wow! Toyota is really being conservative with their cars nowadays...I hope their new sports car (whenever it comes out) won't come from the same design department...

Toyota and sports cars .........scrolling through their list of cars for sale in Aus and they have A) probably the most cars for sale and B) the most boring.
Wake up Toyota more sales could be had by actually trying to make cars people want to buy.........

I wish since they are now the biggest and most profitable Automaker, they'd come out with true sports cars to compete with other automakers.
If I wanted a toyota sports car, I'd have pick up one of these: ae86, gt-s, supra, mr2

Their stock price speaks for itself for cars that people want to buy, if not they'd be down the GM path right now so people DO want to buy the cars! Now this is a car enthusiast site so most of us either have interest in sports cars or have a strong preference for "2 fast 2 furious". Now if you want a true sports car go get a Ferrari or get become the next Indy500 race car owner.
Now getting back to the appearance of this car, it's an improvement compared to the previous styles but nothing drastic. I'm sure they don't want to lose their customer base. I can tell you that of the 4 corollas I've owned they've all been bulletproof until one of them was taken out on the freeway by an uninsured 17yr old trying to weave through heavy traffic. For $16k you can drive these home and it'll run for at 20+yrs trouble free without much engine or transmission problems at all.

Comments like "stupid Toyota" or "wake up Toyota" just don't make any sense in relation to their decisions about this car. They're not building it for people who know the difference between AP1 and AP2.
