correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the roughtly 260tq "limit" is for the DSG box only. That the manual does not fall into that category. And from the looks of it, the S3 is a manual.
Its true.. but if DSG is somewhere in the mix.. it will be interesting to see what they are running for the clutches... It will eventually have to happen... the 30th anniv car ppictured as of late would be getting close on those clutches too...

yes it will.. they are different trannies using a completely different architechture.. nobody has seen the Porsche unit yet, but considering that it will be a longitudinal means the design will be very different. Longitudinal setups posed some design challenges for the DSG tranny.

Not that different, they are designing it with VW/Audi. It will be a VW product in a Porsche (not exactly a new concept). Whatever lessons arer learned form the 911 DSG will certainly translate to an S4 or S3 DSG in the future.

Why not just offer the A3 V6 quattro in 6MT? Why the hell don't they do that anyway?

Because it would make it a nose heavy pig.
One of the thing I hate about Audi cars is their engine location. The place their engine so far in front of the front axle (Opposite to the S2K) that no matter how much you mod the suspension it will always understeer like a pig.

There is plenty of room for the DSG tranny to hold more power, the S6, S8 and RS6/8 variants will be coming with DSG at least as options. Also, a major point is the fact that the Bugatti Veyron currently runs a beefed up version of DSG.

The main reason the MK5 volkswagens/Audi TT got the DSG witht the "260 lb ft" rating was because of the tunnel for the transmission, it wasn't big enough to house the upgraded tranny. There is a DSG mated to the 3.6 that is rated for 350 lb ft already in production.
