as a side note to your topic title... technically all the supras before are yamaha supras....

1g 1jz are yamaha engines. 2jz is just Toyota stroking yamahas engine

I read that all (most?) of those vents have a simple plastic plate on back that can be removed, to allow the aftermarket to create attachments and hoses to create whatever real vents you want. Brakes, etc.

The idea was track cars and modded street cars coukd make use of them. They were designed with real uses in mind, then just closed off on production cars.

In a way, this is best of both worlds. Keeps cost down unless you need them.
