New daily!
It's been a long time coming, but after 19 years the Integra GS-R is being put aside. I'll probably write a summary up later about it's life achievements, lol. But in the meantime, welcome to the family my new Volkswagen Golf TDI Sportswagen S! It's a brand new 2015 model. There was a stop sale on the 2015 TDIs until the government deemed them okay to make available for sale. It's worth nothing that the 2015 Golf TDIs have a brand new engine (EA288) featuring AdBlue urea exhaust treatment. The focal point of the diesel emissions scandal was the EA188 engine, it's predecessor. The purchase of this car is a few firsts for me. First Volkswagen I've ever owned. First four door car I've ever owned (haha). Only the second automatic transmission I've owned and will be the first since 1999. Also first car since 1999 I've owned that doesn't require premium fuel. A few of the specs:
2.0 liter inline 4 EA288 diesel engine with variable vane geometry turbo
150 hp @ 3000-4000 rpm
236 lb-ft @ 1750-3000 rpm
5300 rpm redline
XDS Cross Differential System (i.e. brake biased "LSD")
AdBlue urea exhaust treatment system
6 speed dual clutch automatic transmission
3200 lb curb weight
31 city 42 hwy 35 mpg combined
On paper this car should be slower than my Integra but I'm not so sure that's the case. I considered getting manual transmission but the commute to RTP is getting worse by the day and I'm sick and tired of being stuck in it and constantly shifting. Besides I still have the Cayman to get my manual kicks with. Car has been getting amazing fuel mileage so far: around 38 mpg in mixed driving around Raleigh and RTP and averaged 50 mpg on a weekend trip to Charlotte. Here are a few photos:

Nice daily! Always liked the TDI VW's, even after the diesel scandal fiasco. What kind of deal did you get? I'm betting a killer one since it's a leftover '15.

$5000 off MSRP and 0% financing.
I wasn't really in the market right now, but the Integra's repairs have been continual (and some are beyond my skill to self perform). 0% financing clinched the deal for me.

Sounds like a great deal! Congrats again. Should be a fun ride for a long time. My best VW wagon story is a rental I did over a weekend in Switzerland when I was out there for work many years ago. Picked up a six-speed manual Passat Wagon turbodiesel and drove to Dachau (a WW2 concentration camp, a sobering experience) for a long day trip. It was a few hundred miles each way including some Autobahn. That sucker would cruise at 110-120mph with the engine zinging in the upper 3,000rpm range and it was stable and felt like it could do it all day. Cool torque hit too when the boost would come on. Of course, it would go flat at higher rpm, but good mid-range surge. Nice car. It was an unlimited mileage rental, but when I returned it two days later with almost a thousand extra kilometers on it, the rental lady seemed a little pissed. Oh well, haha.

Im starting to get in the same boat with the TSX. Already spent $1500 in parts and labor: new steering rack, new inner and outer tie rods, new LCAs and LBJs. Front suspension is shot and needs replacing. I love the car though and it's kind of a unicorn, so I might dump some more money into it.
