No kidding. In case GM has not noticed, North Americans are buying fewer trucks and truck based vehicles as their daily drivers. It is not a far stretch to say that the predominant truck buy, buys it to/for work. Therefore it needs to run well, take a beating and be somewhat economical to keep (not just fuel usage).

F150 sales are down. GMT900 will face a similar problem. The full size imports are not going to fair much better.

Poor Tundra, F-150, and Ram.
I can't really tell what's new about it. Seems like they changed around the front end, shamelessly ripped off Nissan's wide open door, and called it a day. It almost looks more like a facelift than an all new design.

Titan and the new Tundra still are much more appealing designs.

Oh, speaking of tow and haul ratings, the GMT900 trucks will be rated to tow 10,500 lbs and haul over 2,000lbs in the bed in half-ton configuration. Crushes both the Titan and F-150.

That's okay, Ford and Nissan can just reprint their brochures and say their "rated" tow capacities are 10,600 lbs.

I don't really know why that matters anyway. Have you towed a 10,000 lb load lately? Do you even know anyone who's towed a 10,000 lb load? How about 6,000 lbs? Anyone?

I helped some friends of mine who had a landscaping business one time do a rock job. They showed up to a quarry with two pickup trucks, one 1/2 ton one 3/4 ton. The 1/2 ton took about 1000lbs of stone in the bed of the truck, the 3/4 ton truck had a trailer with about 6,000lbs of stone on it, plus another 2,000lbs in the bed of the truck.

Much like many other things in life, having a higher capacity than you need is good for a LOT of reasons.

1. Safety margin. Running on the ragged edge all the time will break something sooner rather than later.
2. People are f'ing stupid in general and will stretch the ratings on a regular basis. Did you know the S2000 is only rated for 400lbs of additional weight? You, a passenger and your luggage for the weekend are probably WELL in excess of that restriction.
3. It is easier to perform a task at 60% of your capability than 98% of your capability.

If I am looking for a tow veichle get get my 3,400lb car + tires, tools, luggage, etc to and from the track, I would rather have a truck capable of 10,000 towing capacity than one that is only rated for 5,000lbs.

In direct answer to your question, no, I have not, nor do I know anyone that has towed 10,000lbs with a pickup truck.

Now, put into sports car terms. Who here has hit the top speed of their S2000 on a public street?

I've seen many trucks in my area hauling what looks like a pretty darn heavy load for a light pickup. I've seen all manner of camper homes towed by pickups that are smaller. I've also seen a lot of horse hauling, craploads of landscaping company pickups towing overloaded trailers...you name it.

I've never owned a pickup, much less loaded anything beyond a lwanmower into one. But I have seen people using their pickup's capabilities rather extensively. A heavy duty pickup can do a lot more heavy lifting than it seems like it can.

How many tax returns do you have to haul at a time there, cowboy?
