The new Honda Civic Type R (World Market version)

There's a dealership in Cleveland that has an allocation of 1 (which is what most dealers will get, for the first year), in black, that they're pre-selling at MSRP. The salesman is on the Temple of VTEC site. I would imagine most of them will have a mark-up, though, just like every other relatively rare car (including the Focus RS), for the first while.

I may have to buy this. This is the first time a Type R has come to America. I think Honda is better quality, design, beauty and reliability than the competition.
If you think there is a better car at this price point, please state the case.
There's something about a Honda....

The Type R will almost certainly be more agile and more responsive but a Camaro SS 1LE (and maybe a V6 1LE) is going to leave it for dead in just about anything but possibly a parking lot race track (auto-x). A Mustang GT with the Track Pack is also probably going to be a clear winner in 99% of the contests of speed in just about any venue except possibly a very tight, twisty track (auto-x)...

New Nürburgring record 7min 43.8s https://www.topgear.com/car-news/hot...urgring-record
Just like the last CTR record it was set with a development car, but pretty impressive nonetheless.
“The development car that achieved the lap time was technically representative of production specification,” says Honda. “A full floating roll cage was installed for safety reasons, but its presence did not provide any additional rigidity to the body frame.
“The extra weight of the cage was compensated for by the temporary removal of the infotainment system and rear seats. The car was using road legal track-focused tyres.”

As would the Golf R and WRX STI. Their sticker prices also start around the mid 30s. The Golf GTI also comes with a trick front diff and starts in the mid 20s.
I agree with the points made with the Pony cars.
If Honda wanted to make a splash in the "small" turbo charged sedan/coupe (not CUV/SUV) market, why not make a STI, Focus RS, or even RS3 competitor with their SH AWD? That would be special.

Touring?
Remember when Type R meant sport focused and bare bones?
