New Honda Prelude?
#12
Man, I'd buy a new Prelude in a heartbeat. I really miss my old '97 Prelude. What an awesome car I owned for most of my college years.

I had a 97 Prelude, too (and a 93), black, 6 speed manual, leather seats, with the SH package, 1500 watt stereo. I traded it in for mt 2000 S 2000 right after they came out in Fall 99.

Lol, now I’m wondering just how many of us came from the Prelude to the S2000? As I had a 97 Non-SH, 92 Si, and a 88 Si (if interested just click on my name and check my photo called Honda and I)

There was discussion of new Prelude (coupe) and S2000 (roadster) rumors on ToV last year. Nothing has come of it, of course.

yeah I'd say the move is based on sales as ishtori5 noted, most Accord customers are going to want 4 doors based on demographics, though I much prefer the look of the couple. One thing to always keep in mind is that Honda dealers don't get much information on future models until the very last minute. Honda is very secretive about product design and traditionally they don't release details even to their own dealers. Don't ever believe anything any sales guy says at a dealership, they don't know anything more than us. I had a 97 Prelude and it was one of my favourite Hondas of all time. I think my new Touring Coupe Civic is a pretty good fill in for any Prelude model in terms of size and performance, I don't see the need for Honda to spend millions on a new product like the Prelude.

They could always use the Civic coupe's platform for a new Prelude. All they have to do is, you know, come up with an attractive design. And for that I would recommend they outsource since Honda no longer knows how to built an attractive looking car*

The prelude before was Honda's (not acura) apex fwd performer before the s2000, which I think was a good reason why we didn't get the type r civic. And it was a good option at that when the competition wasn't cranking out 300+hp in rental car form.
Sporty coupes in general are on the decline in the affordable car market, so making a prelude is just redundant when you already got a turbo civic ex, si, and type r. I remember walking past the Honda dealer every day after school and seeing the same preludes sit there for months.
A prelude these days would be like how vw offered the scirroco side by side with the gti. I don't think it will do well in this market, I cant see it being better than the current si or r, so I just don't see the point. It rather them make a three door or coupe type r.

What if they made it RWD and put the Type r engine in it and priced it at low/mid 30's? Man, I'd SERIOUSLY consider one for a daily.
