New RX-7 - as early as 2011?

IMHO, the perfect car would be an RX-8 with the Mazdaspeed3 engine powering the rear wheels. The rotary in the RX-8 is too weak for the car, and the engine in the MS3 is way too strong for fwd.

I always felt they should have done that, but I guess the RX designation makes it a sin to put anything other than a rotary in it?
I don't know the exact dimensions, but I think the RX8 is roomier than the MX5 (and that's not considering the back seat alone). Driving dynamics would also be different. And then there's the hard top only configuration.

Having said all that in defense of the purported new RX-7 -- the thing that kills me about the RX-8 that I assume the RX-7 will share is the lack of torque. When most people say they want a fast car, they mean they want a car that goes when they step on the gas regardless of where they are in the rev band, and the RX-8 fails miserably in that department -- even though it's fairly quick, it never feels quick due to the lack of torque.

You're absolutely right. The reason that I bought an S2k is because of the tremendous torque it puts out.

Last time I checked, the S2000 and RX-8 had almost identical torque and hp numbers, and they're about equal in acceleration and track times. The only reason you'd feel less torque is because the rotary engine is so much smoother imo. It needs to be driven high in the rpm range, much more so than an AP1 though.
