Brz only because porche parts are expensive and generally porsches are a pain to work on without a lift.

The 944 was never appealing to me, and maintaining that old of a Porsche would not be kind to my wallet.

Those 944's had to have come from idea dumpster diving. Stare at a 944 long enough and an Aztek might start to look aesthetically pleasing. BR-Z wins fa sho.

I would have to drive them both before making a decision.

A friend of mine has a Porsche 944 Turbo and it's a tinkerer's car. It has a lot of little problems indicative of it's old age and spends about half it's life underneath a car cover due to some various reason or another.

If I was the kind of person who enjoyed spending time in his garage working on his car, the 944 would work. However if I wanted a car to "just work" without me having to put many hours and many dollars into it, the BRZ all the way.

Funny thing is, the 944 Turbo S (my dad has owned a few - still has one as a racecar) was, at the time, the fastest of all the Porsches (including the 911 Turbo)! It was also better handling than the 911 of its day. Like the Boxster/Cayman, Porsche partially limited the capabilities of the car so as not to encroach on the 911. The car is fantastic to drive - excellent balance, great brakes, moderately light, decent torque and quick for its day (0-60 in 5.3s, 1/4 in 13.9 @ 101 mph).

I'd take a BRZ over a 944 (base model) but I'd definitely take a 944 Turbo S over an FR-S.

I have been thinking along the same lines as you except I am thinking more along the lines of a restored or an excellent conditon 240Z , BMW 2002,BMW 3.0CS , Porsche 912 ! The STYLE on these new cars are sucking b@!ls badly. I was looking at videos on youtube and the sound of the 912 along with the fact that it can get up to 36 mpg plus I think it is an undervalued even though it is kinda slow. The BMW 2002 also has a nice sound and it looks so much better than the new BMW's . The 240Z always looks like a poor man's Ferrari Daytona to me !

There have only been 2 944's I'v ever liked. So out of these two I'd take the 86.

I don't see the BRZ as all that "new school." In this poll I chose the 944S.
