New Supra

How far apart is a base level Cayman from the Supra? Do they cross price points at all?

I dunno, the 86 always seemed more like Subaru's pet project than Toyota. I just don't think anyone at Toyota has the passion required to make a sporty car anymore. I guess the difference here is the 86 came out as two essentially identical cars under two names whereas the supra and z4 are two very different cars (on the surface anyhow). Jalopnik said months ago that it looked like the Supra was going to have 100% BMW running gear underneath and that's when I lost interest in it's development.
That's no knock against BMW, they make fine cars, but the Z4 hasn't been anything I've ever had an interest in.

From the Wikipedia:
Toyota, led by project leader Tetsuya Tada,[7] then invited Subaru to partner in the project, by co-developing the new D-4S boxer engine.[8] The offer, which conflicted with Subaru's reputation for high performance all-wheel drive (AWD) cars, was rejected. The project came to a six-month halt before Toyota invited journalists and Subaru engineers to test a developmental prototype. Following the test, Subaru agreed to become further involved in development.
I have a 2017 BRZ Performance Package btw, LOVE it!

Fake vents are okay with me, if you build it to race you can still make it work, better than not having them at all. There is no sense for automakers to make it work for street use, degrade the structure of the car and cost more to produce. What bothers me are those cars with fake exhausts and nothing really comes of them.

Base Cayman is $58,150 w/destination. And yes, they do exist - the last time I was at a Porsche dealer, there was a black one with *zero* options, high-profile tires and all. Wondering if you could get a couple grand off since they're not selling well.

I wonder when Alfa's 6C comes out. That would be a competitive car in this segment.

Supra is $50,920 w/destination, $54,920 w/Premium Pkg, and $56,180 Launch Edition.

At least you can get a manual transmission with the Cayman.

Each to their own on color. Just left enough budget to spec a wide array of colors. 18" is standard. Looks fine to me with it. The huge wheel is more of generational thing. I don't mean actual age, but in generation of how you see and feel about cars. 19" wheels is an additional 2k which is less than the paint. So if you want 19" or possibly 20" in a base color would be about the same price.
