I'm not enthralled with the way it looks either. It's a bit overdone for my tastes.... still it's hell of a lot better looking than the Camry and Accord which are flat out ugly.
The current Accord's problem is like the problem Kirstie Alley has - 5 to 10 years ago they were slim and nice but now they look 30 to 40 percent BIGGER than they should!

has anyone seen the new kia optima? I think it looks even better than the sonata and has the same 3 motor choices...I can't believe I actually think that a kia is going to be a contender.

You think the Sonata is ugly? If so, I'll take ugly anyday over cookie-cutter bland like the Camry and Accord. Altima is the only other car in the family sedan class that looks half-way decent and I don't like the loud 4 banger and CVT in the Altima (had one as a rental in Vegas a few weeks back).
I understand that they're trying to make a bold statement and stand out against the Accord/Camry/Altima, but good lord they over-did it a bit.
I'd like to see it compared against a Subaru Legacy 2.5GT. Similar hp numbers, styling, etc.

on paper this sounds like a promise to perform. I wonder about quality and ride as well? It is hard to believe a car like this is refined and balanced in any way, we shall see.

The manual fanbois have to realize they are a dying breed. About 5%-10% of cars these days have manuals. Everybody else has automatics. If you come out with a mainstream car that is strictly manual (ala the MS 6) chances are you won't do well.
