We are looking to replace the SUV, and the 996 keeps coming up as the car to go towards. We don't need a fast car, but is the turbo more reliable than the NA version? I have always liked the 996 style and thought it was funny how this is the ugly duckling for Porsches. I bought my 993 because my boss let me drive his 996 to lunch.

When I had the 993 an easy fix to the shifting was a B&M short shift kit.

Was your 996's rear and intermediate seals upgraded? How common is failure?

Thanks!
The Turbo, GT2 and GT3 use a completely different engine from the rest of the 996 range. It's a common block with the GT1 race car. No problems with RMS and IMS.
IMHO, this is why the Turbos are viewed as a decent or even good investment by those in the know.

The unknowing smear these cars with the serious engine issues of the NA 996s

Much prefer it with the rubber front lip. Great purchase!
I prefer it too. The black lip makes me think back to my RX-7 R1.
HAHA! I was thinking the same thing! My R2 has a lip just like that! Except you can drive your car and I can't...LOL

Congrats on your purchase! Nice color too!!

I just installed a set of GT3 seats today:

These seats were not available for US market Porsche models, but they subsequently became available for purchase. They have been out of production for some time, so I had to track down a used pair. It was especially hard finding seats in grey to match my interior as most sets out there are black. After months of searching, I bought these off a gentleman in Denver. I've only had a short drive in them so far, but the difference in support is immediately felt.

Porsche branded GT3 seats cost a mint. I'm scared to ask what those set you back.

Also, how comfortable are these for everyday driving?

There wasn't much difference in the cost of these used GT3 seats and a pair of new Recaro Pole Position seats in leather with the mounting hardware. I chose the Porsche seats mainly because they came in matching grey leather. A small factor was resale - there's always a market for these.

The seats are pretty comfortable. The biggest thing to get used to is the very low seating position. My driver's seat is directly mounted to the floor. There's great headroom for wearing a helmet, but on the street it makes you feel like a little kid looking over the dash.

You could use spacers to dial in the seat height.
