Default nissan 300zx

Just lookin around on autotrader and i cant believe that you can find decent early model twin turbo for low teens. The ones i ran across claim to have service records and look good in the pictures.

What do you guys think of these cars? I've driven the non-turbo version and it was a blast... i cant imagine how much fun the boosted one would be.

I had a 91 TT. It was a great car, fast smooth and quiet. Had so much power at rpm it would break loose and start fishtailing @ about 28 mph in 1st gear. The car felt heavy though, and if your are used to the S, it will be a disappointment. But if you can afford both, not a bad car to own.

IMO a better find is a 944 turbo. Hard to find a good one but worth looking for.

Even better, get a 944 Turbo S. Significantly quicker and more powerful than a regular 944 Turbo. You can get one for low to mid teens and a beautiful, mint condition one for mid to high teens.

my roomate just picked one up (non turbo) and I must admit, they are very nice cars! The weight is the biggest problem, but for a non-turbo old car, it had decent torque. I like it.

I actually had a 93 300zx convert before i had my S2k. I gotta say, I loved the exterior styling of that car. Man are they beautiful cars even now, after 10-15 years, those cars still look classy. Yes they were heavy but the engine was adequate to pull it around. The space in that car was amazing comparative to the S. Even the trunk space in my 300zx vert was very very good. I miss that car, but as it got older the reliability factor started to show its ugly face. I also had myself into a 91ZXTT and man, those turbos are really nice... power is probably on par with the S, but you feel like you are going faster...
I think that like you, i would like to get back into a older ZXTT, but i think low teens should get you 93+

I would recommend against a 944 Turbo unless you can afford to really stay on top of maintenance. They're not particularly unreliable for cars of their age, but they're a bear to work on, and parts are fairly pricey. Budget a $1k+ a year for upkeep.

Lots of people can't afford to keep them in top shape, which means that many / most cars you find used will require lots of money just to get them back into decent shape.

not to say that the 300zx is any easier to work on... from what i read the turbos and engine are so packed into that engine bay that its like working on a VR6 VW.

I have always loved the look of the 944 turbo. Smooth car and plenty of room for a guy my size (6'6")

I personally like them, but I have heard that they were not super reliable with high horsepower applications. Just what I heard not sure if this is true. They have some turbo upgrade kits (for the TT) that can make them beasts. I have seen some guys with 600-700 hp. NICE !
