http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=290817

while i hate to admit it, it's hard for me to think Honda is making much money from the S, NSX, or Type R versions of their cars...while the Pilot, CR-V, and Odessey are selling quite well. I hear an Acura SUV based on the CR-V is due next year as well........is Honda bowing out of the sports car market just when the competition is bringing better products??? (e.g. new boxster, new SLK, new 997, new C6, etc etc etc....)

I think this is pretty old news. I heard about this a while back on TOV. At the time people were saying it was speculation, but more & more it looks like it is true. It is a shame, why come out with an HSC concept car, if you plan to kill off the line.

Not surprising. After all, for many years now, Honda's "high performance" cars are "high performance" only when compared to Honda's other cars - the rest of the industry has moved on, leaving Honda and the fanbois in the parking lot by themselves, slapping each other on the back, but alone in the dark.

IMO the S2000 and the Type-R's still compete very well with the others.

i guess they didn't get the response and feedback from the public that they needed to give it the green light.

Perfectly stated.

And if the only other 'sports' cars the S2000 can hang with is a lard assed 350Z or an underpowered Boxter, well, that only means that those mfgs are just as ignorant as Honda. Thank the gods that the good ol' boys at Mitsu, Lotus and Subaru seem to have cracked the code on supercar performance without the supercar price.
so basically, you think the best solution for honda, nissan, and toyota in terms of performance vehicles is to take the civic, sentra, and corolla, throw in some high boost turbocharged engines, add awd, gut out the interiors, and stiffen up the suspension and chassis (to put it in a nutshell)??

Wtf??? the Z and the Boxster (as well as Z4 and SLK) are S2k's main competitions. Last time I check Honda doesnt make a car to compete with EVO and STi. Also the Elise is $40k, which is about $8k more expensive than the S2k, so I dont know what you are talking about.
