Porsche Envy

I get more excitement revving the Porsche to redline than the Honda. The flat-6 engine sounds cools and unique and when you pair it with a nice exhaust..it's heavenly. It's just a better all-around car than the S2K. I still keep the Honda around because it's cheap as hell to drive.
Just avoid the 1st generation Boxster (986).

In some circles a Porsche is viewed as ostentatious.
The numbers are daunting and not just the purchase price. I imagine the insurance and maintenance costs are also something you need to consider. And, for me a divorce would almost certainly add to the expense.
Still - they sure are impressive cars.

I have an '86 911 in addition to my S2000. Was looking for a Boxster when we "accidentally" tested an S2000.
Boxster is a great driving car but an S2000 is 90% of a Boxster at 50% of the cost.

This thread reminds me of comments a flying buddy of mine made. He happens to own a boat and motorcycle dealership. Boats with helo pads. Really nice big boats. He said that no matter how big of a boat you get, no matter how much money, no matter how many toys it will hold or how luxed out the suites are, someone will come along with a nicer boat and pop your bubble.
Someone will always have a nicer, faster, better, more "valuable" car than you. I surmise a few P owners pine away for a prancing horse emblem on the steering wheel. I am one who wonders what it would be like to own one. I actually could but my savings for retirement are worth more to me as they are.
I am more than content with my very nice S.

And that comment about someone spending $3000 at the track to have tires and brakes replaced is a bit silly. I'd imagine the same items and work for an S2000 would be around $2000, depending on what you're talking about. (my Cayman Pagid track pads are only around 10% more expensive than the ones I had for my S2000. Rotors are considerably more expensive but they're also considerably larger and are cast with holes - no blanks like S2000).

Porsche envy, not so much. Aston envy; well perhaps.
