Default Q&A: Why the Iconic Yugo Isn’t Just a Punchline

From an Autotopia article off Wired.com...

"Jason Vuic used to be an ordinary guy. He toiled in relative anonymity, teaching modern European and world history at Bridgewater College in Virginia, never dreaming that a 30-year-old car could make him a celebrity.

Then he wrote a book about the Yugo."

It was amusing to see the article and Q&A session with the author of the book.
I thought some of you would also think so (especially the Gen Xers). My family had a Yugo. I never drove it, but it was this extra car that my dad bought because it was such a good deal! ha ha!

The article also had a link to some good Yugo jokes. Here is the one I really liked:

Why don't Yugos sustain much damage in a front-end collision?

The tow truck takes the impact.

I like how the reference photo shows a Yugo with a tail light out. I bet more than one came from the factory that way - sort of a limited edition indicator for the Yugo.

Hey... that could be a joke!

What do you call a Yugo with a tail light out?

A limited edition.

I'd think it was a standard feature.

What do you call a working Yugo? A limited edition.

I recall reading that aftermarket parts for a Fiat 127 bolt right on... but wait. Who cares?

Q: Can I get lowering springs for my Yugo?
A: Don't worry about it, the crusher will take care of lowering it.

Q. Why did Yugos come w/ rear window refrosters?

A. To keep your hands warm while pushing it.

What do you call the shock absorbers inside a Yugo?

Passengers

Truth is I like Yugos. If only I had all the money in the world... I'd build something ridiculous, pointless, dangerous, illegal, and stupid fast like this:

Yes, that's two (very different) engines in that Yugo.

I didn't expect to see that when I posted this thread.

I would like to see that run at an Auto-X.
