Factor in price and it is, essentially, in a class by itself.

great price for that IMO
it's something new and worthwhile. Too bad the car got 16 MPG on the test (15/24 cty/hw) is not too bad but these times people may be looking for more economy.
those EPA ratings are not so bad, but a far cry from the 35 MPG average that CAFE mandates in 2020
I know this is not 2020 yet but this could be one and done for the big RWD V8s unless there is a loophole to be found.

Automakers have 12 years to bring CAFE up 7.5 mpg, and they should be able to do it with alt fuels and better engine designs elsewhere in their fleets so they can still sell some fire breathers.

The good thing is that CAFE is an average, so not every car needs to meet it. Today CAFE is 27.5 mpg I believe, so 16 mpg by the G8, or 15 mpg by a similar car like a BMW 535, just needs to be balanced out by the other cars Pontiac sells.

535i as per edmunds:
"What's more, our test car recorded 22.5 mpg during our two-week drive. By the way, this is one of the first vehicles we've tested that reflects the new-for-2008 EPA average fuel economy ratings. Our real-world 22.5-mpg average (24.2 mpg best/20.0 mpg worst) over 1,600 miles does, indeed, reflect the 535i's official 17 mpg city/26 mpg highway fuel economy ratings for 2008."

Nice car and the fact it gets similar real-world mileage to my 215hp IS300 is a testament to engineering with it's six-speed auto and cylinder deactivation. Then, when it's party time, it has 360hp to rock and roll.

hell of a car..... the GXP (or whatever) with the LS3 and 6 speed will definately be something to think about buying!!!
A stock G8 can pretty much keep up with the last gen M5!!!
