Remember that Nissan CandD wadded up?

Anyone else questioning Nissan's R&D? This type of stuff in addition to the GTR's issues should be easy to catch if you do some repeated hard track days (not just worrying about N'bring times).

Read this last night after I got my mail and found my C&D. Foregone conclusion, as far as I'm concerned.

I was really surprised by this (after reading the initial report and then this excellent follow up article). I've lost a lot of respect for Nissan, especially given these problems on their NISMO model. When I buy a vehicle I plan on tracking it - and as far as I'm concerned if I buy a sports car all I should need to be prepared are track pads and higher temp brake fluid. I've thought about possibly replacing the S with a 370Z at some point, but my current thoughts are leaning towards no.

Especially the NISMO, which didn't even come standard with the oil cooler. My friend added an oil cooler to his 370Z and that doesn't even keep the engine from overheating during a summer track day in California.

Don't forget the POS viscous differential.
Nissan came so close to building a really great car, and probably could have eliminated the shortcomings for another $1000.

The cars initial braking was ridiculously good from an Insideline article that I read... Something like 104 feet from 60... I guess they just don't hold up to track requirements.

I've done a LOT of research on these cars and I just can't convince myself to buy one. For hot-weather states, you could really screw up your car unless you fork over the money to upgrade the cooling system for track use. Given the brake issues and a few other widespread (but somewhat minor) issues, plus the fact that I do track my car occasionally, I'd just be scared to own one without doing some upgrading.
