This is ridiculous and awesome at the same time.

No idea. If you watch the video in 1080p and full screen you can read the text in the upper right corner. That's where I got my info. I'm no Dick Tracy lol.

Don't worry, I don't doubt that you read that. I read the same thing. I just don't buy it.

Depends on what it was tuned with. One of the handheld tuner things or mailing the ecu somewhere can do +25 hp, a dyno tune will do 30+

See my link above. An LS6 in the hands of proper engine builders saw 20hp after new headers AND a reprogramming. It seems unlikely that GM left so much on the table for an ECU only change.

Here are some tests with the LS6 motor showing a 20 hp gain with headers and a re-tune. Note that it took headers AND a return to deliver 20 hp on a motor that was 416 stock. 30 hp via a chip seems unlikely.

Keep in mind, this is Europe, higher octane fuels readily available too.

The numbers are higher, but they are also RON numbers

It's kind of a moot point. The Z06 was slightly faster in a race where the M5 had every benefit. Anyone who knows about Corvettes will know it had no "aftermarket ECU" or a 30 hp bump, and from a stop it would walk the M5 like a dog. The Z06 out-performs the M5 in any performance contest one could arrange, in fact, which is hardly surprising. Anyone who doesn't realize that doesn't know enough about the cars for their opinion to carry any weight.

The M5 is unquestionably fast. It doesn't matter that it weighs ~4,200 lbs. in a staightline race from 30 mph, given the power of its twin-turbo V8.

Cool but a LS6 is barely related to the LS7

Not exactly barely. They are both LS family motors which actually would make them very related. The LS6 was 5.7L vs 7L. However they both flowed air nicely and more to the point I don't see either gaining much with only a chip upgrade. The article I included showed the LS6 gaining less than the claimed 30 HP of the video after "chip" (reprogrammed ECU) and headers. I think they said the LS6 had cast headers. The LS7 comes with tubular headers though I'm sure they can still be improved upon.

These guys got 33 more HP after doing some tuning and changing the thermostat.

I guess that puts the 30 hp video claim in the realm of maybe but it also might be power that only exists when the engine hasn't become heat soaked etc. This isn't like cranking up the boost on a turbo. It would be interesting to see if that modified Z06 was any faster than a stock one. We car folks, are like Audiophiles, we sure do love our performance enhancing Voodoo.
