Default RX-8, 10000rpm NA?

rumor, just rumor i heard.

the upcoming RX-8 sedan will power by a NA rotary that goes to 10000rpm.
it will cost less than the RX-7 Type-R Bathrust R that currently selling in Japan.
may possible out run the s2000 in NA output.

the new RX-8 may well put out more power than the S2K at higher RPM's. From where I sit, that's largely irrelevant as you're talking about a rotary engine (Mazda) vs a piston engine (Honda). You aren't really comparing apples to apples. More like apples to raisin bread, IMO.

PS - While I like the look of the RX-8, I think its blatantly obvious that Mazda took a long, hard look at an S2Kwith a hardtop before styling their car. I sincerely hope that Mazda does a better job of making the car reliable than they did with the fantastic (but problematic) last gen RX-7 sold here in the states.

Ok, for another time, De Hapa, you're on crack if you think Mazda looked long and hard at a hardtop S2000. The RX-Evolv (which the RX-8 is based off of) has been around a long time. It looks a little like the S2000 because a lot of cars look like the S2000, the Miata being one. So who copied who there? There are numerous threads on how Mazda took the S2000 design, and molded it into the RX-8. The design process for a car isn't a few months, it's a few years!!

I'm not a big fan of the new RX-8... Is it a sedan or a sports coupe? Or a sedan-wanna-be-sports-coupe? I think the 4 doors KILL it.

I don't believe the 10000 RPM redline. I have heard 8000-9000 RPM, and have seen a figure of 250HP peak @ 8500 RPM in several places, which leads me to believe the redline will end up in the 9000 RPM range. The new rotary displaces 1.3L and will probably have a specific output of almost 200 HP/L, but a rotary is not comparable to a crank&piston engine because of the way displacement is calculated.

Prices have not been set, but expect the RX-8 to be more reasonably priced than the RX-7 was.

Mazda doesn't play any games with their RX series, i'm sure they're not going to disappoint anybody with the 8.

with the rx-7's high maintnence rotary, i will expect the same from the rx-8 but a little slower considering it will weigh more (am i right on the weight)

The RX-8 looks nothing like the S2000 in the flesh. Trust me, I've seen it. Second of all, it probably will have a 10,000rpm redline. That is low for a rotary. There are street driven rotaries that redline at 17,000rpm. Third, the car's target weight is 2800lb. Given it's size, I'm not sure how Mazda plans to do that, but a rotary is a very lightweight engine.
