s2000 to be discontinued
I read in Car Magazine(UK), a magazine that really smokes all amercan car magazines...that Honda has nixed the NSX. A side piece in that article mentioned that the s2000 will not be continued for a second revision. There was little information about it but to me the lack of continuation to remodel the s2000 means the car should be discontinued in a couple of years. Here's hoping that Car Magazine is incorrect.

there's really no need for a complete redesign of the s2000. i think honda got it right the first time, for the most part. the car can benefit from a little alteration here and there to keep the car fresh, but a complete redesign is not necessary. as for the car being discontinued in a couple of years, i doubt that will happen if the car continue to sell. look at the nsx. it's been around virtually unchanged for over a decade even though sales have plummeted significantly over the years. if you ask me, when honda choose to alter the s2000 next time around, they should maintain the 2.2L (or maybe even up the displacement to 2.4L) and find a way to up the redline back to 9000rpm (or higher), cuz imo that is one of the true spirit of the s2k.

furthermore, if i was honda, in the next year or 2 i would offer a limited version of the s2k that has a manual top, manual steering, no AC, lighter wheels, lighter sports seats, and a bit more aggressive suspension tuning to entice devoted s2k owners to want to go out and tradein their s2k or even add another one to their staple. such a limited version will not cost that much in terms of r&d, plus it will renew some of the attention for the s2k that has been lost throughout the years.

further, furthermore, i think honda in the next 2-3 years should develop and offer a sequential tranny for the s2000 as an option to further mimic the F1 experience.
my point is even without any significant redesign, the s2000 potentially still has a long life ahead of it...but only if honda chooses to continue to make interesting and appealing updates to the car.

Honda will continue to sell the S2k as long as they make a PROFIT
The car will most likely be replaced with another S (like S2400 or S3000 with a 360hp V6 ) That is larger and a complete new design

The S2000 has been rumored to be discontinued since its birth in 2000. Countless magazine, countless people, countless posts, countless sales guys, etc., have all claimed to have the inside track on how the S2000 is no more. Guess what? We're now headed into 2005 and the car is STILL here! Want to bet we have this discussion next year?
