S2000 vs STI?
I have been doing research for a long time now and finally came to the decision to sell my s2k. Its my daily since im a college student i cant own two cars. Am i making the right choice? Is it worth the extra money? I love my s2k, its so much fun, but i want something a bit faster and more practical but that stays as fun like the s2k. Also, in a 30 pull stock vs stock who would win? Thank you guys for your time, i really appreciate whatever you guys have to say |

Thank you guys for your time, i really appreciate whatever you guys have to say The STi was a nice car (not sure what platform you're looking for), the VA chassis (2015+) is much more refined than the previous GR and GD, quality is much higher, but it still has the dated EJ motor which just isn't reliable and damn long in the tooth at this point....The s2000 is a much better car in terms of quality and reliability, but as a daily driver primary vehicle, depending on your needs and location, it can be doable or just flat out impractical. IF you can keep the S2k I'd urge you to do so....S2000s aren't made anymore, are steadily rising in value, and if you have a good example, are increasingly becoming harder to find. If your s2k is unmolested and in good shape I'd urge you to keep it. You'll definitely enjoy an STi, but I can assure you, the honeymoon will wear off quickly, and you'll be left underwhelmed and looking to mod, and that's when shit goes downhill incredibly fast with a Subaru. You'll always be able to find an STi for sale, but not always an s2000 at a reasonable price and in good shape imo. They're still making the STi, and a new model is slated to drop in the next year or so.... TL;DR if you can keep the S2000, do so. The STi would definitely suit your needs for practicality and speed, but the fun quickly wears off. The s2000 is much more reliable and fun to drive. I think you'd ultimately regret getting rid of your s2000. Just my .02, I'm sure there's plenty of other people here that have owned or currently own an STi that can give further input. Definitely put a lot of thought into this decision. Here's (was) my car a few months before I sold it. Have a nostalgic photo dump. I kinda miss it sometimes, but who knows, I might get another some day, but I wouldn't give up my S for it, but I'd definitely give up the STi for the S again in a heartbeat. Have a bonus of me in a tie dye cat shirt! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...3f04a0dee.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...08c9469c7.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...7950419fc.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...abe0a3ed5.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...21f124ba7.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...376e08330.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...873d509f1.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...7522df861.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...16dd2cfa3.jpeg |
If you're looking to save money in college, keep your S2000. Swapping cars costs a significant amount of money with sales tax, registration, etc... S2000 holds its value much better and is a higher quality car. Your emotions say trade, but you wallet says stay where you are. The grass is not greener. S2000 is a lot cooler than STi. Lean on your friends when you need more room for something. I'm sure they'd like to borrow the S2000 if you need a bigger car for something.

I've owned a 2015 STi, and now currently have an AP1 s2000. In terms of personality the cars absolutely cannot be compared. A college student with an S2000 or an STi sounds a little ridiculous, but I'm not going to judge your position. The STi is definitely faster, less raw (by far), will destroy an S2000 in a straight line stock for stock from a roll or a dig. If more practical and faster is all you desire, the STi will tick your boxes fine. I bought my STi brand new in June of 2015; owned it for 2 years, blew a ringland under warranty, had the shortblock replaced at 38k miles, and dropped the car like a hot potato. I'd always wanted an S2000, but as an auxiliary vehicle vs my primary; so I tossed the STi to the wolves and bought a cheaper beater Civic Si for a daily and bought my S2000 for weekend warrior business; couldn't be happier. If you do want a Subie daily driver, I'd get the WRX, not the STi version. The WRX is practically as quick in day-to-day driving, it has a newer, more reliable engine and it's cheaper to buy.

More evidence going to college is a purely social event, certainly for some. Academic demands are so minimal we're worried about 0-60 times and fun driving. Real life is approaching...

-- Chuck I test drove a '17 STi and drove to/from the dealership in my AP1. STi was significantly quicker, but AP1 is more comfortable and more fun....plus it doesn't get 15-19 MPG. Holy cow just read the OP. Stop street racing like an idiot. Sell your S2000 and buy a Yaris/Versa/Corolla/etc. Save your money and avoid crashing. No one is impressed by an S2000/STI/whatever. |
