Already? That was quick!

Between the two, I'd prefer the Boxster S.

Also, a turbo S2000 is super fun as well.

I've driven both and would take the Boxster hands down. If the choices were between an S Boxster and an M Coupe however I'd opt for the Beemer. I love the odd look of that coupe.

Z4 M Roadster. You can get a brand spanking new one for $45K.

To make your S54 M-coupe handle better try Ireland subframe bushings, coilovers, and Azenis 235/255 tires or full race tires.

If you don't like the Coupe you will not like the z3 roadster either.

Well that's the thing, in order to make it handle well the S54 Coupe needs coilovers which make the ride very stiff and harsh on my back. The previous owner had lowering springs and it killed by back everytime I hit a bump.

What I like about the Boxster S is that it handles just as well as an M Coupe with springs but without the horribly harsh ride on public roads.

I'd LOVE a new Z4 M but at 45K it's out of my 30K budget...

I'd also love a 2005 Boxster S but again it's around 45 000$, still too expensive for me.

I'd hold out for a 987 S personally, but if not then have you considered...

More power- C6 or a C5 Z06
More handeling- Elise

He said that he has a 30K budget. I don't think he wants a salvage title POS

Assuming you're talking about the E85/E86, the M-roadster is stiffer than the E46 M3 coupe. So while the M-roadster isn't as stiff as the M-coupe (which has twice the torsional rigidity as the M-roadster), it's really no slouch either.
The OP has a first-gen. M coupe, I believe. I assume, given his price range, he is looking at a first-gen. M roadster. Is the E85/E86 the current generation? I was referring to the first-gen. cars, and I would be shocked to hear that the first-gen. M roadster is stiffer than an E46 M3 coupe. I always thought the Z3 platform was a bit of a limp noodle.

Boxster S. Classic car, great handling, awesome brakes, and pretty cheap compared to new.

Power isn't everything. And, I doubt whether you'd like the handling of the M Roadster over the M Coupe; the stiffness of the Coupe really ties the chassis together. The Roadster seems a little limp-wristed after you've driven the Coupe, handling-wise.

As far as the Boxster goes, well, there's a reason it's one of the classic sports cars. Just go drive one. The 986 is awesome, and the 987 even more so. Only thing I don't like about the 986 is the interior--it's just chintzy. (but the interior is still nicer than your M Coupe) The 987 fixes that.

Either of them are not too hard to find used: go drive both and see which one you like. I just can't believe you're selling your M Coupe... at least you most likely will be able to sell it for what you paid for it.

Oh, one more thing: the Boxster is difficult (not impossible) to do DIY maintenance on. The E36-based BMWs are about as easy as it gets for a modern car.
