SL55 vs NSX? Price drop gap?

I do think that Mickfluff is not so much into the twisties as much as boulevard cruising. Otherwise the Elise and the Corvette might make it onto his list.
I would drive a minivan-looking thing if it handled like an Elise.

I like the SL55, 2dr, with the right tire/rim package can look very sport like no doubt.... may not handle on a tight track like a P car or an elise but the car is by no means a slouch and on the highway going to pull on most cars it comes across. (Uhg just realized I wrore CL55) But may not be anyone's first "track day car" choice So I am open within boundaries if thats not a complete oxymoronic statement.... thanks again for your reply and input.
OK here goes.... MPG not a concern and this will NO way be my daily driver as I have a few other cars, two door, not to old, 2000 is really the latest I would prefer to go back although the late 90's water cooled 911's are beautiful. Two seater OK (or 2 seat with tiny rears) and a mix of fun to drive as well as some guts on the highway when needed.....As far as a badge I will fess up. I want a car that has some prestige but not going to buy it solely for that reason. If I wanted only performance there are better choices out there I mean the vette has the bang for the buck and nice on the eyes but just to common for me...., So without sounding pretentious I want something with some shock factor when you see it (like a viper as where I live thats fairly rare to come across) or a nicley equiped P car. (not a bone stock silver 1999 996 but maybe a Red factory wearing Aero Kit carrying P car with a rim and tire package that sets it apart....I want it all really but only willing to fork over so much. I know I may need to make some consessions to end up settling on the right car and thats why I am posting here. Thanks again for your note back and agree with your reply.....

There's nothing wrong with that. Just a little different than my tastes.
The ultimate examples of this would be a 996 C2S decked out in GT3 body kit and badges.

Hence the recommendations tailored to the "show" rather than "go."

ckit can start compliling an encyclopedia of rambling
the SL and most benz value drops harshly because those cars are essentially moving status symbols. if you dont have the newest and best one, you're nobody. so as there is a sl65 and a new sl coming out, the old ones are not the bling anymore. S class sedans are like 20k from 100k.

New SL body styles come out every couple years and are usually drastically "newer" looking than older models.

2001 MB SL:

Sure, the different models look different, but one reason MB SLs are so popular is that they DON'T change very frequently. We are talking DECADES between generations, dude.

easy there on the assumptions, I never said a 911 wearing a fake GT3 aero kit, what I said and meant (sorry if this was not clear) is I would consider a 911 but not just a plain jane 911, but one with the factory optioned Aero kit and in the right color combo.
I wouldn't want something that called attention to itself unless it actually was faster or better handling than its peers.
I think a fair number of sports car enthusiasts would take a 987 Boxster S over a AeroKitted 996 911. In Germany, that was the whole reason for debadging high end models and making them more subtle. There it's considered kind of tacky to go about town showing off.
I'm not sure if you'll actually want the kind of attention you'll get with an Aerokitted 996. Really, there will be a lot of "normal" cars that will go out of their way to hand you your a$$ for showing off.
Maybe a Rennlist or 6speedonline member can comment on the prevailing thoughts there on people who tart up their base models instead of putting that money towards a newer or larger engine'd model.
It might be akin to my feelings on fart can Civics with 20 inch wheels.
(And yes dyhppy, work was slow today... so a little bit more rambling than usual)
