I'll eat my hat if they sell 20k/year.

You better start developing an appetite for hats then, Rai. Normal car people are going to buy 20k/yr of this car on looks alone. It's a damn good looking roadster for the price.

j/k

This car isn't going into a field without competition. You have the all new MX-5 to fight with. Also there are only so many Roadster buyers to go around it's a zero sum game.

It's one thing to take 9000 pre-orders it's another to actually sell 20,000 cars. I'd bet a lot of people will cross shop with the Miata. It's possible the Solstice won't be the best thing since sliced bread. Also how good has Pontiac been at predicting and delivering sales? Seems to me the GTO sold half what they wanted or expected.

exactly. the 9000 are hardly "sold orders".

Many did it on a whim. many will defect to the miata.

Since the miata looks like a little toy and always has, I assume anyone who wanted the POS would have already bought one...so I doubt a solstice buyer is looking at miatas, s-2000, boxter or any other long in the tooth vert. these are people who are buying the Solstice, just like most mini buyers were people buying the mini, not "cross-shopping" it.
