Well, the 1 supposedly fills the gap, but its already the same size inside as the the current 3 right? Plus, BMW already announced the new 5, so the 3 has to be between the old 3 and the new 5, but the old 5 is about the same size as the old 3, so how big can it be?

The .5 series is going to fill the gap left by the 1 series.

Just what we need, a bigger heavier bloated 3 series.

WTF? Stop with everything getting bigger and bigger, damn it. Stop blurring the damn lines, the 3 & 5 are already more than close enough together. Before you know it, they'll all be the same battle tank size, and the only question will be how expensive do you want it to be?

it looks super blah to me. I've always liked BMWs body lines from the old 2002s to the 80s 3 series, the new M5s, but this doesn't really drive away with any panache.

I saw an X5 in Ohio the other day with that same exact camouflage on it. It had South Carolina plates (from the Spartanburg plant), but I couldn't tell why it was camo'ed- it looked like a normal, current-gen X5.

I'd like to see a picture of even the current 3 parked directly next to a 5 from the mid-80s or so. Cars are just silly big now, and even most of the small cars are ridiculously tall. Even driving the 1 felt like there was all this extra car and headroom that I didn't need -- it felt overinflated.

Am I the only one who prefers the smallest car that does the job, regardless of weight (although less weight is very good)? It seems like most people, when looking at otherwise similar cars, will go with the larger one because they're "getting more". I just feel like I'd be getting something needlessly hard to maneuver and park.
