Dodge viper. They are available around $50k, out of production, direct connection to Carrol Shelby.
Any Mezgar engine Porsche
vintage American iron, e.g. 69 camaro ss or z28
Ferrari 308/328/348 or stretch the budget a bit for a 355
DeTomaso Pantera if you stretch the budget a bit

I wouldn't bother with any modern mainstream brand for investment except for the very limited release stuff - GT350R, Z28, ZR1, Z06

Speaking of ZR1, C4 ZR1 is where I would put my money as a speculative bet to actually increase in value.

You like Jags? You know them. Why not the best last model, say 2006 or so XKR convertible, low miles, excellent shape, tons of fun to drive, will not loose much more and will go up and you can enjoy it while it does that, probably for less than 15k, then you invest the rest in apple and wallah!

Anything that has a 100% failure rate for $4-5k headers, requires engine-out belt service every 3-5 years, and has bronze valve guides is NOT(!!) a good investment.

I agree with that, but the OP said to exclude maintenance

When maintenance is 20%+ of the car's purchase value, on a regular basis, I think it's wise to at least note it...

NSX is a solid buy right now. A nice one can be had around $40k and values continue to rise slowly but surely.

My bro has a 996TT - awesome car to drive and with the wide body, still looks good. From a driving dynamics standpoint, Chris Harris has said that it's his favorite turbo - even over the 997.
996 headlights are the worst looking ones ever. Omelette mobile with a 90's interior, gross.

I looked at '11 XKR coupe over the weekend actually. I would not do the 4.2 model; only the 5.0's... Do not want the J Gate at this point. The hockey puck shifter makes for much nicer interior.

What do you think about an French Blue XKRS? I think they will hold their value as being a collectible variant and halo XK. 550+ HP, nice bits and pieces... I just love the color and they come up enough that I can find one when we are ready.
