Thank God he walked away from that. Very scary.

Holy shit. Glad he was able to walk away. He remained pretty damn calm too. So many times you see clips like this the driver is cursing up a storm.

Further proof why the STI is awesome. It's known to have one of the strongest door pillars and best frame designs in the industry. Though I remember reading about one guy that it took the fire dept many many hours to rescue because they couldn't cut through the STI frame with the jaws of life...
None the less, downforce is your friend, especially at high speeds. Sucks for the guy but glad he's seemingly ok.

Damn. That is Phil from Element, great guy in the Subaru community. I met him a few times. He practically lives at VIR and is there all the time. He def knows his car on that track. I believe he used to use a APR wing.

He did a great job, tried to save it with some timely counter steer, then got his hands off the wheel once it was too far gone.
ConfessORdie - basically, only replace whiplash with broken neck. The HANS device tethers the helmet to the driver's torso so that the intertia of the helmet doesn't rip the head off the body, which is securely strapped into the seat. This type of trauma is what killed Dale Earnhardt.

Less of an issue on a track-only car with a full cage in it.
Is that steering wheel a MOMO or a lower quality knockoff? Looks dangerous as hell...
