Default Stupid Question: When will BMW become "affordable"?

To the regular middle class people? You think it will ever become "affordable" like a honda? Or how Volkswagon claims the German everyday family car.

Well they will be coming out with the 1 series, which I think is a big mistake. Prices should start in the low $20's. I read an article that I agree with. They should really break off into dual nameplates like Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti. I think the lame fact that there will be a $20K 1 series that has the same name as a $80K 7 series, just like the MBZ C230 sports coupe, and a $120K S55 just destroys brand image. Next time a guy tells you he drives a BMW or MBZ, it may be worth less than a lot of Hondas (can you say BMW Civic ?)

They already are affordable. Your typical car is selling in the mid $20's and BMW starts right there, maybe a little more. You can get a BMW for less than a Fully loaded accord.

325i start at $28K.

Why are so many people worried about brand image? I think its great that you can get a 1 series bmw in the low $20's! Cheap RWD car most ppl can buy is a great idea.

It's all relative. You can get a 3 series for less than a typical Pickup Truck or SUV. Well maintained 2-3 year old cars for about what you'd pay for a new loaded Taurus or Impala.

Check out your local Chevy Dealer...they sell plenty of Trucks and SUV's (to regular people I might add)that cost way more than a Corvette! $ 45K and up!

I just did a little search, this year (in June) the average (net) selling price for all new vehicles was $24K. The average MSRP was $28K.

So I don't think the 3 series is out of reach of the average family. How many Explorers are sold for $30K and up?

Sure people can get more "bang for the buck" at lower end dealers, but that's not the same as saying the BMW is out of reach.

They will become more affordable with the release of the 1 series car, a compact car that is originated from the 318ti, but hopefully this one will have better numbers, all around
