Subaru S209

What are your thoughts of this car? https://www.autoblog.com/2019/03/14/...totype-review/

I always liked the STIs.

It looks like a great package. I really like it. I am surprised about the weight, they should have done more to reduce weight further for such a low volume rare model like this. Very cool either way though.

Saw it at the NY auto show. Subaru went all out with this one.

saw this at NAIAS this year- I like the extensive work they did to the STi to push it even further. more dollars than I would spend, however.

Also surprised they can't get more power out of that engine when asking a premium price . I still like it a lot.

I would be interested to drive it and see how it pulls and how the powerband is. I have a base wrx and I’m very happy with it but feel it could use more power and it has a somewhat choppy powerband. It seems like those torque numbers may bring a different feel to how the car accelerates.

me too, I think many wrx owners like myself would agree that power drops off quickly at high rpms with the 2.0 l motor, but on the same front it builds more low end torque and sooner than the Sti motor, so that is the trade off. The WRX suits me fine as a daily driver, I like having the torque available right off the line, but that's just me and that's what you get from a twin-scroll turbo.

This new model would feel quite nice at the top end of the power band from what I'm seeing, I like the new redline limit too.

Yawn. Piddling 4-cylinder 2.0 engine! What a disappointment. Lots of red trim though. I love the camo pattern but it's hiding basically nothing new.

Heck even the Mighty Car Mods lads put a turbocharged 3.5R engine into their Supergramps Legacy station wagon (AKA lowered Outback) years ago.

I like the car, at a price of $35k otherwise Type R. Too much money for too little style and go.

A) They need a hatch body style.

B) They need an engine from this century.

I don’t understand why they don’t put up a hatch version. It comes up over and over from enthusiasts that they want a hatch. Personally I’m fine with a trunk but it seems to me giving people what they ask for is the way to make money.
