^ hows that?
BMW is "1" ugly car Saw both in person the other day, the 1 series looks loads better than the new sti. The standard wrx wagon and sedan arent too bad looking, but for 35K the sti is just butt hurt ugly especially when the Evo X was just around the corner (the X is a looker in person). And it can't be a sleeper either as everyone knows it's the STI so it doesn't even have that going for it. |
i had my eyes on the STi for a DD in addition to the S2K.
but it won't be out until next year as a 2009 model and will command a premium (perhaps even a markup the first few weeks). soo i'm seriously thinking about just buy a regular base 08 Impreza 2.5 hatch. the price is only $17k msrp and i can get a premium pkg w/ VDC for about $19.5k out the door. granted, it only has 170hp/170torq and doesn't handle as well as a STi or WRX. but it should still serve just fine as a AWD DD and has 90% of the looks of a STi (I'm one of the few that has grown to like the design). What do you guys think of the base Impreza hatch? for basically 20k, it just screams value to me. I can always upgrade to a STi or another car later down the line when prices come down. |

I mean the new hatch design for the STI serves a practical purpose being that it's more aerodynamic, and as far as hatch shapes go it does have a nicer one. I just feel they coulda done a lot better with the front end, I mean look at the MS3 for instance. Anyway, should be a good DD, but perhaps a WRX? |

STI's pricing seems to be heading towards the Supra's, 300Z's, RX7's price increased. Not good!
I guess Subaru and Mitsu want their performance variants to sell like M-series BMWs, but I don't think they can pull it off. |

Yeah, sounds like a good idea, plus the car will run forever.

Anyway, should be a good DD, but perhaps a WRX? however, i went to the dealership for a testdrive. it was raining outside. i was only able to test drive the a 2.5 sedan w/ premium. car handled great in the wet. but man, did the drive sucked. i mean, it wasn't bad, but it was kinda .... disappointing. the shifter sucked and i mean SUCKED. i guess i'm used to the s2k but the throws are long and vague, especially to 3rd - often cant do it the first try. the 5th throw is long. i know there's a sti short shifter installed for $500 but not sure if its worth it on a base model. the clutch travel is short and engages fast, i couldnt get a good rev match going at all, - heel toe was out of the question. u'd have to seriously stomp down on the gas for an emergency braking before your heel can reach the gas for a rev match. 170hp is a bit better than most cars of its class but i never really felt it on the road. acceleration is avg and never did i feel like it was quick/fast. the interior was bland and didn't really inspire at all - not too fond of the red instrument panel, and small speedometer..etc. overall, there's a lot of car on paper at that price and i suppose my expectations were too high. but the mazda3 left me w/ a better driving experience for one. my current 97 impreza outback sport is a lesser car but actually leaves me feeling good about the drive. the new impreza has vague steering, feels heavier, refined but i rather like the 97's rawness. i still think for 18-19k, it is a steal considering it has awd and 170hp. at 25k, wrx has its own set of competitors. but i cant even imagine paying 40k for a loaded STi version of this car. |
^ All the extra $ is well worth it. We can all argue all day that with the difference we can build a faster WRX but it's not just speed but reliability and well engineered parts with warranty. I'm happy with the STI, I couldn't live with a regualr WRX, for that I'll just get a Civic Si.

Ill just back out. ( he put me down for a deposit, without requiring my doing so. Something else he says he always does) Also, Im expected to take delivery anywhere from next month to early january. This could all be dealer fluff, i guess ill see. |
