Even the Cayman S? Wow, strong statement!

Cars are to get to point A to B, taking stuff along with you makes some cars more important than others.

The Cayman S is clearly my favorite, but it doesn't do a very good job of hauling my family or my dirt bikes.

It would be the keeper if I didn't have such practical/utilitarian needs.

Of course! I asked for the sake of asking.

I agree, pretty shortsighted. How quickly we forget...

$4/gal will be back people. And then it's going to go higher.

Time to roll out the hybrid sport cars and in a few years gas free cars.

Don't be fooled.

I agree with you that the ability to carry stuff makes a car more important. The thing I see is that if someone really needs an SUV/Truck then they would keep it, but if u switch from SUV/truck to a smaller, more fuel efficient car, then the SUV wasn't necessary in the first place. My problem is with the people who do not really need a SUV/truck becuz a good amount want to have a bigger when they can easily manage with a smaller, more fuel efficient car.

How about option D

Park your SUV and only use it when you need to and buy a crappy Ford Fusion with a 4 cylinder- thats what I did for my wife...

She does need her SUV once a week for work purposes, however by driving the Fusion 6 days a week we were ahead or breaking even until gas went under $3 a gallon...

At $4 a gallon.....
$130 a week for gas in in Expedition only
$60 a week for Fusion 6 days and Expedition 1-

$70 x 52 /12 = $303 a month savings which covers the car payment and insurance on the Fusion and then some....

RIght now at $2 a gallon Im only saving $130 a month- which means Im putting about $120 out of pocket .....

Im not going to change anything yet though because I think in a year gas will be back up again....

Now that I have bought a wagon as the grocery getter, I have a car with capacity for the very first time in my life and I am almost forty. It is convienent on occasion, but Home Depot, and every other place in the world will deliver what you buy.

I choose fun and efficient as more important to me, but to each their own. I'd rather be entertained at the wheel every day than bored with a carload of stuff.

But you are also buying equity in an asset instead of just burning the money in the Expedition. And employing the people who make the car, and who pay taxes that pay for schools, and health care and ............

Or you could just ship the extra to Saudi Arabia getting 10 mpg and have it funnel its way to a weapons cache in the Pakistani tribal region.

I kind of like the Fusion idea better.

I'll always have a truck regardless of gas prices. They're just too useful for hauling motorcycles, Home Depot runs, towing, etc.

Well, you actually have a use for the truck. There are people who buy SUVs/trucks just because they want to. I mean, sure, that's a good reason to buy something; it's not like anyone will say, "You have no use for that Cadillac Escalade. Go buy a Honda Fit instead", but when gas prices start rising again, these same people who purchased SUVs/trucks for no real reason will be the ones attempting to sell/trade-in their vehicles for smaller and more fuel efficient economy cars.
