Toyota FT-86 and Honda CR-Z to get race versions
Info from FT86club.com
Amazing to see a car coming out that's actually light and cheap and even with a competition/track version. So refreshing to see in this age of green and technology laden cars. Going to be fun to see the CR-Z racing in the 24hr Nurburgring.

Both Toyota and Honda are planning to go racing with their new sports cars, the FT-86 and the CR-Z respectively.
While the showroom version of the FT-86 is expected to cost over $27,000 in full spec (that's a touch over L16K, but expect that price to be considerably higher for UK cars), one source close to Toyota told us that a special low-frills competition version will sell for less than $22,000 and be specially set up for racing with stiffer suspension and beefier brakes. The same model will be used for drifting competitions.

Still no news of a turbo.

Speculation is that the turbo will definitely be offered on the Subie version. I don't think anyone is holding their breath that Toyota will offer it but who knows?

27k? Ehh, that seems a bit steep for what will most certainly be a pretty slow car. Sure, I see potential in the thing, but it will accelerate slower than it should for that price.

No one has any idea what "full spec" is yet, it may have a turbo. I certainly don't think Toyota would pass up a TRD opportunity either, and a TRD version for ~$30k that would compete with the Genesis and Camaro et al would be pretty sweet.

Ahhh yes a TRD blower package would be nice. They install them on Tundra's and cover them under warranty.

I'd have to agree, I mean this thing better be noticeably lighter, not just "light" like 3000lbs is considered "light" these days. Reason I say this is because that's gen coupe v6 money. Base 370Zs around here are being advertised at 27K.
The Celica weighed in at 25-2600Lbs.
The FT-86 would be nice if it were in the upper 2k range...2800ish.
If for that and it were to get a TRD blower (warrentied) and run upper 20k, it'd be a nice bargain
