Default two questions

1. F10 M5 vs W213 E63AMG
I purchased my first German sedan a little more than a year ago for DD duties (The S2000 wasn't a good DD, it's best as a weekend toy). Have really grown to enjoy the car. Thinking of upgrading. Thinking of getting an M5 or E63AMG. Leaning toward the M5 (b/c it's sportier) right now. Anyone had experiences with either? Would appreciate any thoughts. Another thought would be the S6 but already have the A6 so the Audi itch is scratched.

that brings the second question..
2. what's a good BMW forum? Trying to get some idea before purchasing (Not being lazy, will do some reading/research when I have time but this forum had been helpful so I thought I'd throw it out there).

Thanks.

A friend had the V10 M5 in a manual. I got like 7 mpg around town and ended up trading it in on a new Cayman S. He was constantly worried about huge repair costs. Engine sounded amazing and was a beast on the highway.

I sound like a broken record on these kinds of threads but......EURO DELIVERY, EURO DELIVERY, EURO DELIVERY!!!!!! It complicates the transaction a little but a super great experience. I have only done it through BMW, but it was awesome. MB has some nice perks too.

And I used Bimmerfest for all my info needs.

It sounds like he's going for a lightly used last gen (F10), not a new one.

The V10 M5 is a different beast from the last gen (TT V8). You are right - the V10 got HORRIBLE mileage (I average 15mpg in my M3, which has essentially the same engine with two cylinders lopped off and 500lbs less weight - can't imagine the M5's mpg) but sounded absolutely epic. F10 addressed mpg in a big way (just look at Fuelly, huge improvement) and of course much better torque and DCT instead of SMG (dual-clutch vs. single) if you're not going manual, but lost that sound.

I say go E63, but get the wagon and not the sedan and take the badges off. I test drove one a few weeks back and loved the idea of having the ultimate sleeper wagon.

No experience with the M5, but I did have have a 550 for a bit, but all the bmw bs annoyed the sh1t out of me. Having to do everything twice was infuriating, try to open the door and you have to pull the door handle twice, turning the car off, have to press the button twice. Stupid stuff like that. I also didn't care much for the interface on the idrive system. Mine was a '13 btw. My father had an S63 for a while, no issues on it at all, just had issues putting the power down when you stomped on it. The 63's have one hell of an exhaust note.

white98ls is correct. don't really want to spend 100K+ and get 50K depreciation after 4 years.

bimmerfest wasn't that active either.
don't want to be a member on all 3 forums. will check out again. thanks.

samspider, most likely will test drive both (when have some time) then decide. Maybe the test drive will change my mind.

I was researching the M5 as well and found the extended warranty is pretty spendy. $9k for a 5 year 75k Miles. I have come to the conclusion that it’s best to have some sort of warranty. I still have not had a chance to drive one yet but I am sure it’s very nice. I am just not sure if I can justify $50k for one that will still depreciate like a tank. Both would be great cars to drove no doubt though. Btw the forum I was reading up on was f10m5 post. Good luck!

didn't know about that. will check out. thanks!
yeah, $50K with depreciation is a fair amount. However, it's better than 100K with depreciation. Also, I figure I work hard and need a little reward so....
