Thought this picture of them together looked cool.
You really need to just drive them. The car isn’t boring. It’s a 600 HP, luxury rocket. It has brakes (the cc ones) from god and a lot of grunt. It can lay long streaks of rubber with ease and it’s pretty to boot. People reviewing cars are ridiculous in their criticisms. Half the time they just string 4 or 5 nonsense adjectives together and call it profound. Even the standard m5 is extremely competent compared to almost any other car. The competition package helps, but it’s the same car. Brakes are the truth though. Other cars are much better now, especially the mercs, but the m5 is still the real deal.
With that said, my next car is probably the Amg gt 63 s four door. I’ll end up keeping the m5 when my lease is up in two months, as I’ve not put many miles on it (didn’t drive much living in the Bay Area, always traveling to LA). But, when the 2019 amg comes out I’ll probably get one. Need four doors cuz I got 4 kids!!
oh and the m5 sounds great, outside. The cabin is just that quiet. The speaker engine sounds works. It’s never bothered me.
more thoughts, because my other ones were sooo good! It’s flies under the radar like no car I’ve ever driven. But, at the same time people tailgate me way less than my wife’s minivan. It gets very little attention, but people seem to know what it is. My friend, who is a car guy (competitive autoxer in his brz) thought it was like a 60-70k car...(i guess it is now)not sure what that means, good or bad. The 7 speed dct has worked flawlessly even at low speeds. It shifts, fast. It’s basically the complete polar opposite of my acr.

Most people (outside a few car enthusiasts) don't really care about how a car sounds as it passes by. They'd rather continue to look at their phones.
anyway... I am learning more about the E63 AMG-S. more and more appealing. Hard to swallow a $10K/year depreciation though. Although this is true for both M5 and E63. Maybe wait a year for things to cool down to $50K range?

gonna test drive both before deciding.
however, must first decide to get the car. Most day I bike to work and so the car just sits and costs $30/day - totaling up depreciation, insurance, registration, etc. Just because you can afford it doesn't mean that you should.
but then again, life is short and you can't take the money with you.
Don't want to waste the salesman's time unless I'm ready to buy. It'd be fun to test drive but doing so without any intention to buy is just being a jerk.
Some days I think one way. Some day I think another. I just wish I have so much income that I don't care about $30/day.

Does $30/day include the cost of the vehicle?

not sure what " the cost of the vehicle " means.
the $30/day comes from and these are fix cost - doesn't matter if the car is driven or not.
1. approx $10K depreciation a year. For the 2014,15,16 cars (both M5 and E63). The cost of one year newer car for those year is about $9-10K (give or take).
2. adds registration (500/year) and insurance (1K/year)
3. divide 11-12K/365 give you about $30/day
4. the tax ($5K) of purchasing the car was not included in the previous post. This would have bumped the cost up but this get spread over 3-4 years of owning the car so it adds another $3-4/day.

Don't feel too bad. I recently saw a couple-year-old SL65 AMG parked outside the grocery store. I did the mental math and figured it was depreciating about $4/HOUR. So in the time it took me to go in, pick out a Mother's Day card, and pay for it, the thing had already lost a buck...
